Awards

Awards which select awardees in the field of thermal engineering are KSME Academy Awards, Technical Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award, Namheon Academy Awards, Thermal Engineering Academy Awards, and Thermal Engineering Young Researcher Awards. Since the first Academy Awards and Technical Awards were awarded in 1971 until 2005, 24 awardees were from the field of thermal engineering. The Namheon Academy Awards, which was established in 1993, had selected awardees in the field of thermal and fluid engineering (including the field of energy and power engineering) but after separation of divisions in 1998, it has awarded one awardee each in Thermal Engineering Division and Fluid Engineering Division every year. The awardees until 2005 is listed in Appendix (3). Meanwhile, TED has been contributing to the development of KSME by establishing different types of awards since the mid 2000’s. First of all, the Thermal Engineering Academy Awards was established in 2007, with the surplus of 20 million won from the ISTP-18 international conference held in 2007 and the donation of 20 million won from reserve funds of TED, for the purpose of awarding those who made great contribution to academic development in the field of thermal engineering. The award has been awarded since 2008. The Thermal Engineering Young Researcher Awards, established in 2012 with 30 million won of reserve funds of TED, awards promising young thermal engineers under the age of 45 who are making contribution to academic and technical development in the field of thermal engineering.
